Why do some people hate illuminati and Freemasonry so much?

freemasonry is a secret society. anything blatantly kept away from public view will face scrutiny of some sort. the Illuminati have yet to be proven that they still exist, possible, yes, but maybe it's a scheme to get us off track on what they really don't want us to know....
