Do Root Canals and a Crown hurt?

I have to get a Root Canal done tomorrow on the far left top back tooth tomorrow and i wanted to know what it is like and how painful is it getting one and after how many days will it hurt for? Plus i might have to get a crown on too how painful is that? Oh and my teeth are very sensitive and i am 17 yr old girl and from Australia qld if that helps?
