Question about the illuminati and how people know about this cult ?

Been researching conspiracy theories for a while and the one about the illuminati seems to be more realistic than some other dumb conspiracies. Anyway I was wondering how people come to know about this cult in the first place if its ment to be a secret society how was there a leak? What rich and famous people are members? and do people have evidence to back the claims up about these famous people?
